The ordinary city fare, not an airport fare: RON 3 covers 90 minutes from validation on any surface vehicle in the region, with unlimited changes, and stays valid to the next stop after time runs out. There is no express or airport ticket. Pay by tapping any contactless bank card at the validator (no commission; press "+" for each extra traveler), an STB card from the machine or kiosk, the 24Pay or LETZ PAY app, or SMS to 7458 (EUR 0.65 plus VAT, sent before boarding). Two journeys cost RON 6, ten cost RON 25, and a 24-hour pass is RON 8. Children under 7 ride free. A bulky bag on a seat or the floor costs another RON 3.

"The center" is not one place, and the answer changes
The railway station is reached from the ground floor of the Arrivals terminal — while the car park is rebuilt that is the only way through, so follow the signs. Trains to Gara de Nord run around the clock, about every 40 minutes, and take about 20.
Finding the stop
Bus 100 has a stop outside the Arrivals terminal and another outside the Departures terminal — use whichever is closer to where you come out. Both stops serve the same route, so either works.
Tickets
Tap any contactless bank card at the validator on board for RON 3, the ordinary fare with no commission — nothing to buy first. The STB ticket counter and machine, for cash, cards or a Tourist Travel Card, are right in front of the Arrivals terminal, on the ground floor.
The taxi rank
Order at the touch-screen terminals in the Arrivals hall, first floor, on the right as you come out of baggage reclaim — it prints a ticket with the fare and the car's details, so keep it. Touting for a fare, by a driver or anyone else, is against the law here.
Uber and Bolt
Ride-hailing pickup is at Departures, not Arrivals — the airport moved it there on 23 April 2026. Request your ride as usual and go up to that level to meet the driver.
Luggage
A bag big enough to need its own seat or floor space on bus 100 takes a second RON 3 ticket, validated separately. Anything bigger than 60 by 60 centimetres breaks the rules and risks a fine, so keep it on your lap or at your feet if it fits.

RON 3 is the whole price, the same as any bus in the city. There is no airport supplement and no express ticket to buy; the 90-minute journey covers the ride and any change afterwards.
Your suitcase may need its own ticket: bulky luggage on a seat or the floor needs another journey's fare. "Bulky" means anything within 60 × 60 cm; anything bigger is a fineable offence. Keep the bag at your feet.
It runs all night: every 30 minutes from 00:10 to 05:40, at :10 and :40, then every 15 minutes from 06:00 to 21:45 on weekdays (every 20 at weekends), then 22:10, 22:15, 22:40, 22:45, 23:10 and 23:40. The night runs are also the fastest, 32 to 33 minutes to Piața Unirii.
Journey time depends on traffic: 32 to 42 minutes to Piața Unirii, 23 to 28 to Piața Victoriei. The airport sits on the DN1, the road into the city from the north. Allow more time at the evening peak.
Tap a bank card at the validator and the fare is the same RON 3 with no commission; the SMS ticket is priced in euros plus VAT and must be sent before you board.
The bus passes Aeroport Băneasa, the city's second airport, 11 to 14 minutes after leaving Otopeni, and Piața Presei before Piața Victoriei. It does not go to Gara de Nord.

RON 6.50 covers Cfr Călători trains bought from the ticket office (up to 3–5 minutes before departure), the website, the app, kiosk machines, onboard contactless terminals, or SMS to 7458 (valid 30 minutes from purchase); a reserved seat costs RON 4.50 more, unnecessary on a 25-minute ride. TransFeroviar charges the same RON 6.50, cash or card, at its offices or on board. From the conductor the fare is RON 13, and RON 41 for anyone checked with no ticket at all. Children under 5 ride free without a seat, with a 50% reduction to age 10. A monthly pass is RON 141, five days RON 48, on either operator.
It does not go to the center. Gara de Nord is the railway station; add a RON 5 metro ticket and a change for Piața Victoriei or Piața Unirii, which puts the journey at RON 11.50 against the bus's RON 3 — and the metro closes at 23:00.
Buy before you board or pay double. RON 6.50 from the office, the machine, the app or the terminal on the train; RON 13 from the conductor. CFR prints the warning in bold on its own page.
Two operators share this route at the same RON 6.50 fare, but neither ticket works on the other's train: Cfr Călători runs 24 trains a day, TransFeroviar 12. Buy from whichever operator's train you are boarding, or use the STB 24-hour tourist card, which covers TransFeroviar too.
Trains run around the clock, about every 40 minutes. CFR departs at 00:32, 01:12 and 02:32; TransFeroviar at 01:52, 03:12, 04:32, 07:52, 09:12, 10:32, 11:12, 11:52, 12:32, 13:12, 13:52, 14:32, 15:12, 15:52, 21:12, 21:52, 22:32 and 23:12.
Twenty-five minutes on both operators' timetables to Gara de Nord (CFR's page says 20 to 25, the airport's says about 20); 21 the other way, from Gara de Nord to the airport.
Onboard contactless terminals are listed as an RON 6.50 channel, but in December 2024 the same terminals, run by a third party, charged 32 bani extra. Expect RON 6.50, and possibly a few bani more.

Buses run every 30 minutes overnight (00:10–05:40) and every 15 minutes by day (20 at weekends), taking 32–42 minutes to Piața Unirii and 23–28 to Piața Victoriei; allow more in traffic.
The train to Gara de Nord costs RON 6.50 bought in advance (ticket office, app, kiosk machines, onboard contactless terminals or SMS), or RON 13 from the conductor. Anyone checked with no ticket at all pays RON 41. Gara de Nord is not the center; reaching Piața Victoriei or Piața Unirii needs a RON 5 Metrorex ticket and a change, making the train RON 11.50 against the bus's direct RON 3.

Licensed taxis at the rank charge a meter, RON 2.29 to 3.50 per kilometer — no fixed fare is published, so no total appears here. Touch-screen terminals on the right as you leave baggage reclaim print an order ticket with the car's number and tariff; keep it for any complaint. Soliciting in the terminal is an offence under Law 38/2003. Ride-hailing pickup is at Departures, moved there on 23 April 2026.
The bus and the train both run through the night, but the metro does not: a train at 01:12 leaves you at Gara de Nord with no metro until 05:00, while the bus at 01:10 reaches Piața Unirii directly by 01:43. A planned metro line to the airport, M6, is still under construction with no opening date. The STB tourist card — RON 20 for 24 hours, RON 40 for 72 — covers every bus, tram, trolleybus, the metro and the airport train.
