Dearest
3 of the ten dearest are airports sold under a city they are not in: Sandefjord Torp, Girona, Reus. A coach is the only way in, and it is priced for a captive market. Two airports are free to leave: Luxembourg, where all public transport is free by law, and Belgrade, where bus 72 is free by the city's decision.

Where the answer changes for four people
Per-person fares multiply; per-vehicle fares do notAt most airports four people simply pay four fares. At 6 the cheapest answer changes hands within a party of eight, because a regulated taxi or a group ticket stops being dearer. The earliest flip is at Munich, from 3 travelers. Only airports whose fares are firm prices are counted: a "from" price cannot name a crossing.
| Airport | Cheapest for one | From this many travelers | The cheaper option becomes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Munich airport | Airport Express coach, €13 | 3 | S-Bahn S8 |
| Valencia airport | Metrobús line 150, €4.80 | 3 | Metrovalencia lines 3 and 5 |
| Paris Charles de Gaulle airport | RER B, €14 | 5 | Taxi |
| Naples airport | Alibus, €5.00 | 6 | Taxi |
| Rome Fiumicino airport | Leonardo Express, €14 | 7 | Pre-booked private transfer |
| Madrid airport | Expres Aeropuerto, €5.00 | 7 | Taxi |
Already at four: Munich (S-Bahn S8, €33 for the party); Valencia (Metrovalencia lines 3 and 5, €14 for the party); Barcelona (Rodalies R2 Nord, €12 for the party); Pisa (Taxi, €11 for the party).

The express premium
How many times the cheapest fare the fastest option costs, and the minutes it buys.
At Toulouse the fastest way in costs 19 times the cheapest and saves 15 minutes. The premium is smallest where the fast option is also the public one: a metro or an ordinary train that happens to be quickest.

How this index is made
- Every fare is read from the operator or the transport authority and dated; the date is on each airport page. Records were last checked between 2026-09-06 and 2026-09-16. How we check fares.
- "Cheapest" is the cheapest option that actually reaches the city center, for one adult, with group tickets applied where an operator sells one. A "from" price counts as a floor and is marked "from".
- Euro figures are the local fare divided by the ECB euro reference rate of 2026-09-15 (source). The airport pages themselves never convert. Serbia's dinar has no ECB rate; Belgrade's free bus needs none, and its other fares are left out of the converted rankings.
- "Fastest" uses the upper end of a published journey-time range. "Runs all night" means at least one option to the center has no first or last service.
