Going somewhere specific?
"The center" is not one place, and the answer changes
The metro station is at Terminal 2 only. Low-cost flights such as Wizz Air and easyJet have been landing at Terminal 1, Ryanair and the full-service airlines at Terminal 2; check the terminal for your flight on the airport's flight information, and the free shuttle joins the two.
Finding the station
Sofia Airport metro station is at the eastern end of Terminal 2, immediately next to the terminal building. From Terminal 1 take the free airport shuttle, which runs straight between the terminals with no other stops, every 20 to 40 minutes around the clock; its stops are signposted outside both buildings.
Finding the stop
Bus 84 and night bus N4 stop outside Terminal 2 and then outside Terminal 1, a few minutes later, on their way to the centre. Until 9 October 2026 the Terminal 2 stop is 130 m further along the forecourt, towards the arrivals end.
Tickets
Tap a contactless bank card, phone or watch at the metro gates or on the blue reader as you board the bus: EUR 0.80, no ticket needed, and wait for the green light. The driver sells a EUR 1.00 ticket with no transfer. The station ticket office and machines sell singles and the 24-hour (EUR 3.00) and 72-hour (EUR 7.60) passes.
The taxi rank
The airport recommends its contracted operator, Yellow!: look for its cars at the main ranks to the right of each terminal, or order at its desks in the arrivals halls of both terminals. It says not to take a taxi offered outside that office or in front of the terminal. No fare is fixed; the meter runs.
Uber and Bolt
No ride-hailing app takes you into town: Bolt's own Sofia page offers food delivery, e-bikes and scooters and no car rides, and it has no pickup point at this airport. A taxi from the Yellow! desk is the door-to-door option.
At night
After the last metro at 23:38 (23:46 at weekends) and the last bus 84 at 23:45 (23:20 at weekends), night bus N4 leaves Terminal 2 at 00:25, 01:25, 02:25 and 03:25 and Terminal 1 four minutes after each, 30 minutes to Knyaz Alexander I Square. Then nothing until bus 84 at 05:10, or 04:30 at weekends, and the metro at 05:21.
Luggage
Two pieces of hand luggage travel free on the metro and the buses; each further piece needs its own EUR 0.80 ticket. A pushchair with a child in it is free, and a bicycle rides free in the last carriage of the train.
