On arrival at Stockholm Arlanda Airport

From the arrivals hall to each way in
Finding the station

Two different railway stations, so check which train you want. Arlanda Express has its own: Arlanda South for terminals 2 and 4, Arlanda North for terminal 5. SL's commuter trains and long-distance SJ and Vy Tåg trains use Arlanda Central, in Sky City between terminals 4 and 5.

Finding the stop

Bus 583 leaves from Sky City, the same building as Arlanda Central station, between terminals 4 and 5. Other SL buses use the same stop.

Tickets

Arlanda Express sells tickets from self-service machines by the escalators and lifts down to the platform, or in its own app. The commuter train's tickets are sold at Arlanda Central and at SL's ordinary sales points.

The taxi rank

The approved taxi rank is outside the arrivals hall at terminal 5 and outside terminal 2 — follow the signs for approved taxis. Never accept a ride offered inside the arrivals hall: only pre-booked cars may meet passengers there, and an unapproved driver can charge far more than the approved fare.

Uber and Bolt

Uber has its own pickup point at each terminal: at terminal 5 it is left outside arrivals, across the taxi parking area; at terminal 2, straight outside arrivals, across the street.

One ordinary SL single covers the whole journey — bus and train, one ticket, no passage fee, because the fee applies only to the station gates and this route never uses them. The reduced fare is SEK 26, and under-18s pay it without any supplement.

This is the whole point of the page: SEK 43 against SEK 200 for the same journey with the same operator, because it starts at a bus stop rather than a ticket gate.

It takes 61 minutes against the direct train's 38, and it needs one change at Marsta. That is what the 157 kronor buys.

Bus 583 runs from Terminals 2 and 3 as well as Sky City, roughly every 15 minutes.

SL tickets are not valid on Arlanda Express, on SJ trains through Arlanda, or on Flygbussarna.

SL sells the SEK 43 fare and SEK 157 passage fee as one SEK 200 ticket. A reduced ticket is SEK 183, since the fee itself carries no concession. Under-18s pay no fee at all and travel for the reduced SEK 26.

SEK 157 of this ticket is not a fare. It is a charge for using the station, valid for one passage within 120 minutes, and it applies to every train that stops here.

Take bus 583 from the same building instead and the fee disappears. It costs SEK 43 and takes 23 minutes longer.

The fee has no reduced rate: an SEK 26 reduced ticket becomes SEK 183, so the fee is 86 per cent of it. Under-18s are exempt.

The station owner has published increases through 2030, so this total will rise even if the fare does not.

The commuter train stops at 00:44 and restarts at 04:44. In that gap SL runs night buses, which cost the ordinary SEK 43 and do not touch the station gates.

From three travelers it is cheaper than the ordinary commuter train — SEK 580 against SEK 600 — which is the reverse of what an express is meant to do, and it happens because the passage fee is charged per head with no group rate.

It still loses to the bus at every party size, by a wide margin.

The operator is A-Train, the same company that owns the station and levies the passage fee the commuter train has to pay.

It does not run at night.

It runs 05:40 to 23:05, a narrower day than the commuter train, and there is no night service at all.

The other airport, not the city: for a connecting flight.

Worth knowing

Arlanda's station charges a passage fee: SEK 157 on top of the fare, for every traveler over 18, whichever train they take. SL's ordinary single is SEK 43, so SL sells the combined ticket for SEK 200 — one passage within 120 minutes, no distance included.

Bus 583 avoids the fee entirely: SL confirms no passage fee applies when you take the bus to or from Arlanda. It runs from Sky City to Marsta in 13 minutes, connecting to the commuter train into Stockholm on the same SEK 43 ticket — a quarter of the price, 23 minutes slower.

The SEK 157 fee has no reduced rate: everyone over 18 pays it in full, which on a reduced ticket is 86 per cent of the total. Under-18s are exempt.

The charge is set to rise. A-Train's published network statements put it at SEK 148 wholesale for 2026, SEK 152.80 for 2027 and an indicative SEK 165.10 by 2030, so the SEK 157 on this page will not hold for long.

No taxi fare is stated here. Sweden's taxi pricing is deregulated, so fares vary by company; Swedavia sets a ceiling at the rank. Taxi Stockholm adds a SEK 50 Arlanda terminal fee on top of whatever it charges.
