On arrival at Faro Airport

From the arrivals hall to each way in
Finding the station

There is no railway station at the airport. The airport's own advice is a bus or taxi to Faro station in the city; bus 16 stops there, at Estação CP, 13 to 17 minutes from the terminal, one stop before the bus terminal.

Finding the stop

The bus stop, named Aeroporto Faro, is on the road outside the terminal building, the point the airport marks as its bus stop. Bus 16 towards Terminal Rodoviário goes into town; the same line signed Praia de Faro goes the other way, to the beach.

Tickets

Pay the driver as you board: EUR 2.85, in cash or with a contactless bank card or phone. The on-board ticket is for that bus and that journey only; there is no machine at the stop and nothing to validate. Children under four ride free.

The taxi rank

The rank is outside the terminal and works day and night; a taxi carries four, and a larger car can be ordered by phone. The meter runs from the start, tolls such as the Via do Infante are added, and a bag over 55 × 35 × 20 cm carries a supplement. The airport gives about EUR 10 as the average to the city.

Uber and Bolt

Bolt picks up at Faro airport: request the ride in the app, which shows the pickup point, and look for the ride-hailing signs outside the terminal. Check the car and driver against the app before getting in.

At night

After the 00:10 bus nothing public runs until 05:20, every night of the week. In that gap it is the taxi rank outside the terminal or a Bolt; the first bus reaches the bus terminal at 05:36.

Worth knowing

Bus 16 is the only public transport at the terminal: EUR 2.85 to the driver, 16 to 19 minutes to the bus terminal beside the railway station, 20 to 75 minutes apart from 05:20 to 00:10 every day. There is no train, metro or shuttle at the airport.

Nothing public leaves the airport between 00:10 and 05:20. A landing in that gap means the taxi rank or a Bolt; the first bus of the day is at 05:20 and reaches the terminal at 05:36.

The airport ride costs more than a ride in town: an ordinary zone-1 single is EUR 1.35, but the airport is in zone 4 and lines 14 to 19 sell a flat EUR 2.85 ticket on board. Pre-purchased zone-4 tickets are EUR 2.11 each in fives or tens, but need a Próximo card — EUR 5 for a plastic one, free as a digital card in the PICK app — so they only pay off if you stay and ride again.

The railway station is in the city, not at the airport. Bus 16 stops at Estação CP two minutes before its terminus, and the Algarve line runs from there to Olhão, Tavira, Albufeira, Portimão and Lagos on a second ticket.

A resort coach, Aerobus Get On by Vamus Algarve, leaves the airport for Albufeira, Portimão and Lagos; its fares and times are published only in the operator's own app and planner, so none appear here — check with Vamus before you count on it.

The taxi is a meter, not a fixed fare: EUR 2.00 on the flag, 0.73 a kilometre and 0.34 a minute by day on weekdays, more at night and at weekends, double the flag and the kilometre for a car seating more than four, plus EUR 0.80 if booked by phone or app. The airport says the average to the city is about EUR 10, with the Via do Infante toll and a supplement for a bag over 55 × 35 × 20 cm on top.

Summer adds departures: from 1 July to 13 September line 16 runs five extra weekend trips and one extra weekday trip. Outside those dates the weekend timetable is 22 buses a day from the airport, not 27.
