Finding the station

The PisaMover platform is under 40 metres from the passenger terminal — follow the signs out rather than looking for it inside the building. It's the only fixed link to Pisa Centrale.

Finding the stop

Coaches to Florence use bus area P6, on the plaza just outside the passenger terminal — not a separate bus station. Caronna's coach sells tickets at a counter inside the terminal as well as online.

Tickets

Buy a PisaMover ticket at one of the four machines at the airport station, then pass it through the gate to reach the platform. The nearest staffed ticket office is a stop away, at the Via Aurelia car park.

The taxi rank

The rank is on the front of the terminal, arrivals side, run around the clock by the CO.TA.PI. cooperative. If it's empty, call a radio taxi on +39 050 541600 instead of waiting.

It is EUR 6.50 for 1,760 metres, and nothing reduces it — no railcard, no child fare, no regional discount.

Two of you may do better in a taxi: the city's fixed airport fare to Pisa Centrale is EUR 10.60 against EUR 13.00 for two shuttle tickets.

The last hour before midnight and the first after six run on call, and the call centre closes at 18:00.

Going to Florence, remember this is on top of the train: EUR 6.50 plus EUR 8.90 is EUR 15.40.

Nothing runs between midnight and 06:00 — or 01:00 and 06:00 in high summer.

At two people this is probably cheaper than the shuttle — EUR 10.60 against EUR 13.00.

But ask first. The published supplements for night, luggage and the fourth passenger onwards do not say whether they apply to this fixed fare, so agree the price before you set off.

It may legally carry up to eight passengers, so a family or a group should compare it against eight shuttle tickets at EUR 52.00.

Piazza del Duomo — for the Leaning Tower — has its own fixed fare of EUR 14.20.

Between midnight and 06:00 this is the only way into Pisa at all.

Take an early departure if the price matters. The 06:40 was EUR 3.99 every day checked; the late-night services were EUR 13.99 almost every day.

It runs through the night, which the shuttle into Pisa does not.

For Pisa itself this is the wrong service entirely — it goes to another city.

By day it stops at Guidoni, not in Florence. Add a tram ride of about 15 minutes and EUR 2.00, and count that before comparing it with anything.

The night service is dearer and goes further — all the way to Santa Maria Novella.

Both fares are starting prices, not fixed ones.

The fastest regional trains take about 52 minutes; a few a day take well over two hours, calling at Lucca on a different line, so check the stops before boarding.

The shuttle does not run before 06:00 and goes on call for its first and last hour, so the regional's earliest and latest departures are not reachable by this route.

Both coaches from the terminal are usually cheaper and run direct, with no change of vehicle.

Worth knowing

The shuttle to the station is 1,760 metres and costs EUR 6.50. That is about EUR 3.69 a kilometre, against roughly EUR 0.11 a kilometre on the train it hands you to — thirty-four times the rate for the shortest leg of your journey.

No discount touches the shuttle fare — no railcard, no child fare, no regional discount. It is added in full to whichever rail ticket you buy, so a child at half fare on the train still pays this in full.

For two people, a taxi may be cheaper: the fixed airport fare to Pisa Centrale is EUR 10.60, against EUR 13.00 for two shuttle tickets. The shuttle's 06:00-07:00 and 23:00-24:00 runs are on call — you telephone for them — and the call centre is open only 08:30 to 18:00. It also misses the first train of the day, at 04:15, by an hour and three quarters.
