EUR 35 is the ceiling the airport publishes for a car of up to four to the centre, 16 km; EUR 30 to the main bus station, EUR 35 to the main railway station. The meter behind it is capped at EUR 2.95 to start and EUR 1.95 a kilometre, so a ride may come to less. Five or more people, or bags that do not fit a car, mean a van with a higher meter and no published ceiling for the centre.

Luggage. Luggage that fits the car rides with you; if it does not, the ride is priced as a van.

On arrival at Zagreb Airport

From the arrivals hall to each way in
Finding the stop

Both buses leave from outside the ground-floor arrivals hall: the Pleso prijevoz shuttle from its own stop by the terminal, bus 290 from the ZET stop on the access road. Take the 290 signed Kvaternikov trg for the city; the stop on the other side is for Velika Gorica.

Tickets

For bus 290 have the EUR 2.65 two-zone ticket before you board, from the Moj ZET app or a Tisak or iNovine kiosk; a paper ticket is cancelled at the machine by the front door. The driver sells one-zone tickets only, EUR 1.99 each. The shuttle's EUR 9 ticket is sold online up to 24 hours ahead; on the day, ask the driver.

The taxi rank

The taxi pick-up area is right outside the arrivals Meet & Greet area on the ground floor, worked by the airport's contracted company, Taxi Gorica. The airport prints its ceiling: at most EUR 35 to the centre for up to four, EUR 30 to the bus station. Cards are taken, though not every car takes Diners or American Express.

Uber and Bolt

Bolt picks up at the airport: request the ride in the app once you have your bags and follow it to the pickup point, which may move; there may be ride-hailing signs. The price is shown before you confirm.

At night

After the 22:30 shuttle the buses wait for the evening arrivals and leave 30 to 40 minutes after each landing, until 01:00; the last bus 290 leaves at 00:32 on the night tariff. From then until the first 290 at 04:47 (05:52 on Sundays and holidays) only the taxi rank and Bolt run; the first shuttle is at 06:00.

Luggage

On bus 290 a bag may not exceed 80 by 50 by 40 cm or 30 kg, and by ZET's rules luggage that takes up a place needs its own EUR 1.33 ticket a zone by day, EUR 1.99 at night; what you hold in your hands or on your lap rides free. The shuttle publishes no luggage rule.

The one-zone tickets do not cover this ride: the airport is in ZET's second zone. Buy the EUR 2.65 two-zone ticket in the Moj ZET app or at a kiosk before boarding and cancel it at the machine by the front door.

Paying the driver costs more: the tickets sold on board are for one zone at a time, EUR 1.99 each, so both zones come to EUR 3.98. The day ticket, EUR 3.98, is valid in the first zone only and does not cover the airport either.

A bag that takes up a place needs its own ticket by ZET's rules, EUR 1.33 a zone by day; what you hold on your lap rides free. Nothing over 80 by 50 by 40 cm or 30 kg is allowed on board.

The timetable gives 28 minutes to Kvaternikov trg; the airport says to allow 45 to 50. For Ban Jelačić Square change there to tram 11 or 12, 7 to 9 minutes more, on the same ticket.

On Sundays and holidays the first bus from the airport is 05:52, not 04:47. The last is 00:32 every night, on the night tariff of EUR 1.99 a zone.

Four people pay EUR 10.60 here against EUR 36 on the shuttle and at most EUR 35 in the airport's taxi; the bus is the cheapest way in at every party size.

Bus 290 does the trip for EUR 2.65 with the two-zone ticket, 28 minutes to Kvaternikov trg; the shuttle buys a coach with room for bags, a stop beside the bus station and a bus timed to the evening flights, for EUR 9 a head.

After 22:30 there is no timetable: the bus leaves 30 to 40 minutes after each arriving flight, timed to Croatia Airlines' landings, until 01:00. A flight landing later than that has no bus until 06:00.

The bus station is a kilometre and a half from Ban Jelačić Square, with trams outside it; the ZET tram needs its own ticket.

Four people pay EUR 36 here against at most EUR 35 in the airport's contracted taxi to the door, and EUR 10.60 on bus 290.

Five or more people, or bags that do not fit a car, mean a van with a higher meter and no published ceiling for the centre.

A maximum, not a flat fare: the meter runs, capped at EUR 2.95 to start and EUR 1.95 a kilometre, and may stop short of EUR 35. If the receipt shows more, the airport asks for a complaint with the receipt to feedback@zag.aero.

More than four people, or luggage that does not fit a car, is a van by the airport's rule: EUR 3.30 to start and EUR 2.60 a kilometre, and the only van ceiling printed is EUR 55 to Špansko in western Zagreb, 21 km. Two cars are up to EUR 70.

From four people this beats the shuttle: at most EUR 35 to the door against EUR 36 in shuttle fares; three pay EUR 27 on the shuttle. Bus 290 stays cheaper at every size, EUR 10.60 for four.

The published ceilings are for the listed destinations — the centre, Novi Zagreb, the two stations, a dozen hotels, Arena Centar; anywhere else the meter decides.

Cards and phone wallets are taken, but not every car takes Diners or American Express; ask before the car moves.
