Not everything runs around the clock: the Alilaguna Blue Line boat runs 05:20–00:20, and the ACTV bus 5, then vaporetto to San Marco runs 04:08–01:10. Outside those hours, the Water taxi is what remains. Set the hour you leave arrivals and the board keeps only what is running.

Buy an ACTV ticket before you board the Aerobus. Machines are in the baggage hall near belts 3 or 5 and at the bus stops, and there's a staffed "Public Transport" desk in the arrivals hall.

Cooperativa Artigiana Radiotaxi runs the airport's taxi rank, day and night. Ask for the fixed fare to Piazzale Roma, Mestre or the cruise terminal before you set off — the meter runs by default otherwise.

This is the only option here that reaches the middle of Venice without a second ticket. Everything on wheels stops at Piazzale Roma.
It is slow — 85 minutes — because it is a boat making stops, not a transfer. Budget the time even though it costs less door to door than the bus.
If your hotel is near Piazzale Roma or the station, take the bus instead: you would be paying for water you do not need.

It does not reach St mark's. Piazzale Roma is the edge of the city; the vaporetto on from there is 39 minutes and EUR 9.50, which makes EUR 19.50 in total — more than the boat that goes directly.
Going on by water, buy the EUR 18.00 combined ticket rather than two singles. It covers this bus and 90 minutes of vaporetto.
It is the right choice, and cheap, if you are staying near Piazzale Roma, the station or on the mainland at Mestre.

It may legally carry up to twenty people — the municipal regulation caps a licence at twenty, and operators run boats seating about ten. That is far more than the four almost every other airport taxi allows.
It still does not beat the boat service for a group, because the fare stops being flat above four people: eight travelers pay EUR 150.00 against EUR 144.00 on Alilaguna. It only pulls ahead at nine.
Between 00:00 and 07:00, check you are buying a boat. The operators' own consortium warns that at those hours an airport booking may mean a car to Piazzale Roma and a boat onward.
A flat EUR 10.00 is added to the whole fare between 22:00 and 06:00.
This is the only option that can reach a hotel door, where a canal allows it — which for some addresses with luggage is the whole argument.

Worth knowing
Every road service stops at Piazzale Roma, the terminal at the head of the Grand Canal — that is where wheels stop. Only the water reaches into the city itself.
If St Mark's or the city centre is your destination, the boat is cheaper overall. The Aerobus is EUR 10.00 to Piazzale Roma, plus another 39 minutes and EUR 9.50 by vaporetto to St Mark's — EUR 19.50 total. Alilaguna lands you at San Marco directly for EUR 18.00.
If you are taking the bus and going on by water, buy AVM's combined bus-and-vaporetto ticket: EUR 18.00, valid 90 minutes, against EUR 19.50 for the two tickets separately.
The ordinary EUR 9.50 vaporetto ticket does not cover the airport journey. Loading the same fare onto a Venezia Unica card brings it to EUR 1.50 — but the card itself costs EUR 100.00 to enable if you do not live in the Veneto.
The last bus from the airport is 01:10 and the first is 04:08 — nearly three hours with nothing. Alilaguna runs to 00:20, and the night vaporetto inside the city leaves Piazzale Roma from 00:09 to 05:09, so a 01:00 landing can still reach St Mark's by about 02:13.
A water taxi here may legally carry up to twenty people, against four at most other airports. The fare is EUR 110.00 between the airport and the historic city for up to four people; above that it is EUR 10.00 a head. Eight people pay EUR 150.00, against EUR 144.00 on Alilaguna.
Between 00:00 and 07:00 a "water taxi" may not be a boat. The operators' consortium warns that at those hours a booking from the airport can mean a car to Piazzale Roma and a boat from there. Ask what you are actually buying before you pay.
The land taxi is a fixed EUR 40.00 to Piazzale Roma, all supplements and luggage included — But you must ask for the fixed fare before you set off, or the meter runs instead.
Three operators, three different luggage rules. Alilaguna includes one hold bag and one hand bag then charges EUR 4.00 each; ACTV allows three pieces, none over 150 cm in total dimensions, and charges a whole extra passenger fare per three bags beyond that.
ATVO also runs an express coach to Piazzale Roma, but no fare or timetable for it is published anywhere checkable.
On 60 dates in 2026 Venice charges a day-visitor access fee of EUR 5.00 or EUR 10.00 per person over 14. It is nothing to do with your transfer, but it is a real cost of arriving on those days and nobody selling you a ticket will mention it.
