Ask for the fixed EUR 40.00 fare before you set off. It is regulated and it includes luggage, but it is not what you get by default — the meter is.

Like every road option it stops at Piazzale Roma. St Mark's is another 39 minutes and EUR 9.50 by vaporetto.
