"The center" is not one place, and the answer changes
There is no railway or metro station at the airport. The nearest is Mikra, the end of the metro's Kalamaria branch, 21 minutes away on bus X3; the metro runs 05:15 to 00:30, and to 02:00 on Friday and Saturday nights, on its own EUR 0.60 ticket.
Finding the stop
The bus terminal is in the arrivals area, in front of Exit 4 of Terminal 1. Every airport line leaves from it: the 01X to the centre, the X3 to the Mikra metro station, the 02X to Nea Elvetia, and the 01N at night.
Tickets
Buy the EUR 2.00 airport ticket at the OSETH ticket booth or machines in the terminal before boarding; the machines on the bus issue and load tickets only with a bank card or a contactless phone tap. The ordinary EUR 0.60 ticket and the EUR 2.50 day ticket are not valid on the airport lines.
The taxi rank
The taxi stand is in the arrivals area between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, between exits 3 and 4. No fixed airport fare is published; the ride is on the meter.
Uber and Bolt
Uber serves the airport: request or reserve a ride in the app, which drops you curbside at the terminal on the way out; on arrival, order once you are outside. Uber names no separate pickup point here.
At night
After the last 01X at 22:40, night bus 01N leaves the same terminal at 23:10 and from 01:10 every 25 to 30 minutes until 05:55; the 1N via the IKEA transfer station fills the gap at 23:40, 00:10 and 00:40. All of them reach Aristotelous Square in about 43 minutes.
Luggage
Luggage rides free on the buses as long as you can carry it yourself; board by the middle doors, keep it out of the aisles and away from the validators, and stay next to it. Pushchairs fold unless the driver allows otherwise.

The metro does not reach the airport. Its Kalamaria branch ends at Mikra, and bus X3 covers the last 21 minutes for EUR 2.00; the metro ride is a separate EUR 0.60 ticket, so the metro way in costs EUR 2.60 and a change.
At night the 01N takes over on the same route: from the airport at 23:10, then 01:10 and every 25 to 30 minutes until 05:55, with the 1N via IKEA at 23:40, 00:10 and 00:40. No hour of the night is without a bus.
