An eSIM for Germany, installed before you fly, works in the arrivals hall: tickets, maps, the driver's messages.
A flight three or more hours late, or cancelled at short notice, can be owed up to €600 a passenger under EU and UK rules, depending on the flight. AirHelp charges only if the claim succeeds.
These links pay us a commission. They never change which transfer we rank first.

Not everything runs around the clock: the FEX airport express runs 04:00–01:00, and the RE20 regional train runs 04:00–21:00. Outside those hours, the S-Bahn S9 and the Pre-booked private transfer are what remain. Set the hour you leave arrivals and the board keeps only what is running.
Traveling together?
4-Fahrten-Karte ABC, four one-way rides on one card. Group fares are already included in the totals.

Going somewhere specific?
"The center" is not one place, and the answer changes
Flughafen BER station sits directly beneath Terminal 1, on level U2 — a few minutes' walk down from the check-in hall above. Flying from Terminal 2, go first to the arrivals level E0 and follow the signs across to T1.
Finding the stop
Regional and night buses stop right outside Terminal 1, on arrivals level E0: night buses N7, N7X, N36 and N60 use stands A4 and A6/A7, and the X7 and X71 express buses use A2 and A6/A7.
Tickets
Buy a VBB ticket from a machine in the terminal or at the station, or through the VBB, S-Bahn or BVG app. A paper ticket bought at the machine must be validated before you board — there are no gates, but travelling unvalidated is a fine.
The taxi rank
The taxi rank is outside Terminal 1 on arrivals level E0, in a north and a south stand; Terminal 2 has none of its own, so its passengers reach the same rank by the signed footpath to T1. Board only at a marked stand, and the driver must take the shortest route unless you agree on another.
Uber and Bolt
Uber, Bolt and FreeNow all collect passengers from the ride-app pickup point on Terminal 1's arrivals level, E0, in its own marked boarding area — request a ride and follow the app's directions there. Terminal 2 passengers reach it by the signed footpath to T1.

It is the same EUR 5.00 as every other way into Berlin. You are choosing on departure time, not on price.
Make sure your ticket covers zone C. An AB ticket does not reach the airport, and the extension sold to fix that costs more than an ABC ticket would have.
Four of you should buy one 4-Fahrten-Karte at EUR 16.80 rather than four singles at EUR 20.00. At three, four singles are not worth it and EUR 15.00 in singles is cheaper.
The journey was about 39 minutes until December 2025 and is about 23 now, so older guides overstate it badly.

Worth knowing
BER is not in Berlin's fare zone. The airport sits in zone C while the city is zones A and B, so you need an ABC ticket at EUR 5.00. An ordinary Berlin AB ticket does not reach it.
Buying an AB ticket plus the extension costs EUR 6.40, against EUR 5.00 for a straight ABC single (EUR 16.80 vs EUR 12.90 for day tickets) — buy the ABC ticket instead. The extension is charged per head even on a group ticket, and a Berlin tourist card bought for AB cannot be extended at all.
Every train in costs the same: the FEX express, the RE20 and the S9 are all the ordinary ABC single at EUR 5.00, no supplement. Just take whichever departs next.
Four people should buy one 4-Fahrten-Karte: EUR 16.80 for four one-way rides, one coupon per person per journey. A group of four shares a single card for EUR 16.80 instead of EUR 20.00.
The group ticket VBB does advertise is the wrong tool here. The Kleingruppe ABC is EUR 37.70 for up to five people, which is worth 7.5 single tickets, so it cannot pay for itself at any party size a car-less traveler is likely to be.
Berlin's fixed taxi tariff only applies travelling to BER, not from it — fixed prices leaving the airport are forbidden by ordinance. No fare can be stated for this journey.
