For Edinburgh generally we recommend the Airlink 100. For Leith the answer changes.

Bus 17 reaches Ocean Terminal on a £2.40 city single, about 50 minutes by day and 35 late evening; the tram costs £7.90 and takes 54 minutes to the same stop. Take the tram only for The Shore or Foot of the Walk without a change, or after the 17's last bus at midnight.
