Irregular: one or two an hour, with gaps of up to 90 minutes in the afternoon, and a few early trains that run only on weekdays or Saturdays. The last train into town is 20:28 every day.
Buy before you board, from the machines at the station or the app, and validate a paper ticket. The shuttle needs its own ticket unless your train ticket is to "Catania Aeroporto Fontanarossa Bus".
The train stops only at Catania Centrale in the city; for Via Etnea and the Duomo it is a 20-minute walk or a city bus from there, where the Alibus would have carried you on.
