For Frankfurt generally we recommend the S-Bahn S8 or S9. For Darmstadt the answer changes.

No train goes to Darmstadt. HEAG mobilo's AirLiner reaches Darmstadt Hauptbahnhof in 29 minutes and Luisenplatz in 35, every 30 minutes from 04:47 to 00:02, for EUR 10.70 (the RMV fare plus a EUR 3.80 surcharge per person, not waived by a group ticket). RMV's X15 bus does the same route for a plain EUR 6.90, hourly from 05:16 to 00:16, but takes 63 to 68 minutes and ends at Mathildenplatz, not the Hauptbahnhof. Five people pay EUR 41.50 on the AirLiner with a group ticket, or EUR 22.50 on the X15; both stop only at Terminal 1 (take the free SkyLine from Terminals 2 and 3), and nothing runs to Darmstadt between 00:16 and 04:47.
