Two tickets. ATM's EUR 2.20 Mi1-Mi3 ticket covers the M4 and the M3 to Milano Centrale. Trenord's regional ticket from Milano Centrale to Como San Giovanni, 47 km, is EUR 5.40 in second class (the 41 to 50 km band of the tariff in force from 1 September 2026). The ATM ticket does not cover the train.

Hours. The RE80 leaves Milano Centrale at 43 minutes past every hour, from 05:43 to 22:43, every day of the week. The first M4 from Linate (05:40, 06:00 on Sundays) reaches Centrale after the 05:43, so the first train you can make is the 06:43; the 22:10 M4 is the last that leaves time for the change to the 22:43.

No direct train or coach runs from Linate to Como, so you cross Milan: the M4 and M3 to Milano Centrale (EUR 2.20, 19 to 21 minutes), then Trenord's RE80 to Como San Giovanni, EUR 5.40 and about 40 minutes. The train leaves once an hour, at 43 minutes past, so the hour you land sets the wait. It arrives at the station, not in the middle of the old town.
