The short answer

It loses at every party size from one to eight. Even eight people in one large taxi pay EUR 106.00 against EUR 65.20 for two group tickets on the train.

The fixed fare applies to the Hauptbahnhof zone. The extent of that zone is not stated here, so for an address elsewhere in Munich agree the basis of the fare before setting off.

It is the only option here that certainly runs all night, which is its real argument rather than the price.

Not the s-bahn. Erding is the end of the S2 from Munich, which never comes near the airport: by rail you would ride into the city and out again on an M-5 ticket. This bus is direct.

Five people: one EUR 18.70 Streifenkarte, two strips each, or the EUR 19.70 two-zone Gruppen-Tageskarte. Four or fewer: singles at EUR 4.20 are cheaper.

It is a stopping bus through three villages, 30 or 34 minutes depending on the departure, every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 40 at weekends.

The last bus is 02:13 on weeknights and 01:53 at weekends, the first 03:53 every day; nothing runs in between.

The Kurzstrecke short-hop fare does not apply between the airport and Schwaig — printed on the line's own timetable — so the first stops cost the full EUR 4.20 too.
