These do not go to the same place, so price is not the comparison. The Airport Express coach reaches Hauptbahnhof and Marienplatz; the Bus 512 to Erding does not. Runs to Erding, not into Munich. Erding is the town east of the airport, and this bus is the only public transport between the two; for Munich, take the S-Bahn.
The Bus 512 to Erding is quicker: 30 min against 45 min.
Airport Express coach: 06:25–22:25. Bus 512 to Erding: 03:53–02:13.

Not the s-bahn. Erding is the end of the S2 from Munich, which never comes near the airport: by rail you would ride into the city and out again on an M-5 ticket. This bus is direct.
Five people: one EUR 18.70 Streifenkarte, two strips each, or the EUR 19.70 two-zone Gruppen-Tageskarte. Four or fewer: singles at EUR 4.20 are cheaper.
It is a stopping bus through three villages, 30 or 34 minutes depending on the departure, every 20 minutes on weekdays and every 40 at weekends.
The last bus is 02:13 on weeknights and 01:53 at weekends, the first 03:53 every day; nothing runs in between.
The Kurzstrecke short-hop fare does not apply between the airport and Schwaig — printed on the line's own timetable — so the first stops cost the full EUR 4.20 too.
